Decription of YOBO
YOBO (Your Own Box Office) is a website where video creators can post their videos with the intention of making money (monetization), and video viewers can watch videos by paying the fees on a pay per view model. It is much unlike YouTube in the following ways:
- One needs to be registered in YOBO to watch a video on it
- Watching a video costs some money on YOBO and it is paid from the YOBO wallet of the registered user.
- When a user is registered, a wallet is created for them and they are allowed to watch Rs. 10 worth of videos initially without loading up. One can top up the wallet securely using Razorpay.
- YouTube has annoying advertisements during the video. YOBO has no ads.
- YouTube has too much content and YOBO has no clutter. Only selected quality videos on YOBO.
- YOBO has a catalog and it is easy to havigate to the content of your choosing easily.
- The rating on the video is more reliable in YOBO because raters do it at the risk of compromizing their credibility. Credibility is factored into computing the overall rating, and loyalty points. Credibility becomes high if a user's rating is in line with the overall box office.
- A creator of a video can look to make money from the first viewing of their video. YouTube has huge barriers and one needs 1000s of likes, thousands of viewing hours to make any money.
- Both YouTube and YOBO require the user to spread the word themselves.
- The creator can upload their video on YOBO and specify the amount they expect for each viewing of their video. The Admin of YOBO reviews the video and either admits it or rejects it based on YOBO guidelines and quality requirements.
- YouTube is a social media platform and cannot reject any video and hence there is a lot of clutter from poor to good quality.
